Bike Dojo was founded in June 2009 by Rob Mylls, a Santa Cruz local, avid cyclist and former BMX, track and road racing champion.
After twice completing the Aids ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles, Rob wanted to share his passion for cycling by creating a community in which everyone rides in a safe, friendly and supportive environment. Rob successfully taught bike fundamentals to his family and friends and soon realized there was a need to teach the basics to new riders so they too could enjoy all the benefits of riding.
Rob realized beginners don’t always know where to ride and may have trouble understanding when and how to shift. After teaching them everything from shifting, to clipping in with the right shoes, to bicycle maintenance, he saw the positive impact, and they began to love riding.
The community started by offering fun, recreational riding, with a variety of training classes to accommodate every skill level. With each ride you get personalized instruction and classes include expert guidance on bike handling skills, group riding skills, climbing and descending, and simple bike maintenance for cyclists.
Our motto is “anyone and everyone can have fun riding and no one is ever left behind.” Our goal is to take riders on the best rides every week whether you are riding inside on one of our state of the art Indoor Cycling Bikes or Virtual Reality Bikes or if you are riding outside on one of the scenic rides in Santa Cruz. Regardless of skill level we are committed to helping people have fun while getting in shape.
